Samsung technology has produced some remarkable LED and LCD TVs, each delivering design and innovations which have resulted in it being one of the biggest selling TV brands in the world! Samsung were the first brand to launch HDR-capable TVs and are still at the forefront of developing better colour potential.
Their latest take on HDR is the QLED model of TV. But what is QLED? Here at Cheap LED TVs, we have detailed all you need to know about QLED TV.
What Does QLED Stand For?
This will be the first question many will think of, what does QLED stand for? The LED part of QLED stands for light emitting diode, a lighting system which has been used in LED/LCD TVs for several years. The Q stands for Quantum Dot.
How Does QLED Work?
Quantum dots provide a different way for screens to produce colour. A layer or film of quantum dots is placed in front of a regular LED backlight panel, this layer is made up of tiny particles, each emitting its own individual colour depending on its size, which is anything between 2 and 10 nanometers. The size of the particle dictates the wavelength of light it emits, which is how different colours are produced.
QLED TVs have the ability to produce colours at higher brightness’s, creating a greater colour volume than ever before, surpassing the abilities of OLED. QLED is able to preserve colours in peak brightness areas. QLED gives you much higher visible colour which is better suited for vibrant HDR content, resulting in an improved visual experience.
QLED vs OLED
The main difference between these two types of technology is the lighting. Quantum dot TVs rely on LED backlight systems, whilst OLED TVs produce their own light. Samsung QLED TVs use an edge-lit LED system which is divided into dimming zones. Different models will have different amounts of dimming blocks to control the light. The more dimming blocks, the better delivery of different light levels.
QLED TVs produce detailed lighting control, designed to give deeper blacks and preserve colour saturation. OLED TVs produce better blacks; however, quantum dot TVs are much brighter.
