This classic comedy by funnyman director, Edgar Wright, is full of chuckles from the very start. With two of the funniest actors in film today, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, this comedy duo teamed up as two constables to take on their new assignment in a sleepy British village. When all seems boring and Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is missing the challenges of the big city policing, they discover a series of grisly accidents and something rotten stinking up this seemingly idyllic village.
With an accumulation of top-notch action, quick snazzy cuts and witty, smart dialogue, these two hilarious brits give Stallone a run for his money.
Airplane!
While this may be an older option, we would rather refer to it as a classic comedy here at Cheap LED TVs. Released in the 80’s, this spoof comedy is one sure way to get the room ‘lolling’. With recognisable faces such as Peter Graves, Lloyd Bridges and Kareem Abdul-Jabber, the story is based on a man afraid to fly but who ends up having to land the plane safely after the pilot becomes sick.
Some have referred to Airplane! as perhaps the funniest film ever made that single-handedly invented the ‘spoof’ genre, setting the bar so high that no film has ever really met it. With every line being quotable, the memorable jokes and straight-faced cast only make the film funnier.
Identity Thief
Perhaps one of the funniest women in film at the moment, Melissa McCarthy takes the spotlight in this 2013 comedy directed by Seth Gordon. The film tells a story of a man (Jason Bateman) who has his identity stolen by a woman. The clue’s in the title, really.
While the plot is very undisciplined, it stands as a great film to put on if you are sick of scrolling and searching through Netflix and you want a few laughs. McCarthy’s impromptuone-linerss and her gags are spot on, making the film a genuine surprise for anyone. A smart, fun and overall great comedy. With many mixed reviews you’ll just have to watch it to make your own verdict.
The Night Before
This 2015 instalment is sure to get you in the festive mood, but with a twist. Seth Rogan, known for his antics in films such as Pineapple Express and This is the End, has now taken to the Christmas jumper to give us a spin on our otherwise classic Christmas films.
The plot follows lifelong buddies Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogan) and Chris (Anthony Mackie) who gather on Christmas Eve to celebrate the holidays together. When they realise that their annual traditions are becoming mundane as they get older they plan a night of laughs and trouble, bound to make you have just as good of a night as they are.
There are plenty of chuckles available to stream straight to your Smart TV right now. As the weather is getting to the time of hibernation, we are all going to be living in our pyjamas and keeping the heating on full. The only thing missing is a classic comedy film.
