The Most Anticipated Games of 2014

Whether you grew up with Pacman, Sonic and Mario, or discovered the joys of gaming in more recent years, video gaming has never been as popular as it is right now, and with two new consoles launched just last year (the Xbox One and Playstation 4, in case you need to ask) 2014 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for new games.

Titanfall, released in March, is perhaps the biggest game so far; a multiplayer first-person shooter available on both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Whilst some critics have called it “just Call of Duty with mechs”, many have praised its innovation and it had a generally positive reception from both critics and gamers.

The next hotly anticipated release is now just a week away; Watch Dogs is due for release on the 27th for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4. This third person open-world action adventure game has already picked up a whole host of gaming awards and nominations and looks set to be a big favourite. Not only that, but games developer Ubisoft now have a motion pictures department, and plan to package Watch Dogs for a Hollywood film project in the not-too-distant future – a sign of the confidence they have in the game, as every other film they’ve pitched has been part of an existing franchise.

Throughout the year, fans of zombie horror will be able to enjoy continuing installations of The Walking Dead Season Two from Telltale Games– three episodes are already available on both Xbox 360 and PS3, with two more to come.  It’s not directly connected to the television series of the same name, but like the TV show it’s based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman.

For fans of fantasy RPG games, there’s a slightly longer wait in store; Dragon Age: Inquisition, the third instalment of BioWare’s hugely popular series, won’t be hitting shelves until October. However, it’s already got the fans excited, as it promises to offer a more open-world feeling than its predecessors, inspired by the success of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and the player’s decisions throughout the game are expected to have more of an impact on the developing story.
