Well, it’s that time again, where we take a look at the best TV shows of the last 5 years (in our opinion anyway.)
It’s a well known fact that TV over the past 5 years has paved a new path for the future of television as a whole. Rather than the old format of smaller scale productions, television now strives to create epic series which are high in budget, varied in location and populated with some of our favourite stars.
In part one, we covered such hit TV shows as The Walking Dead, Orphan Black, and House of Cards which are all still being watched even though at the moment, they’re off the air. (The Walking Dead returns soon though!)
As providers of some of the best cheap LED televisions, it gives us great pleasure to give you part 2 of our picks of the best TV shows of the last 5 years.
Game of Thrones (2010- present)
You probably knew this one was coming, and why not? It’s a great show!
Based on the series of novels, A Song of Fire and Ice, by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones can take a lot of credit for this shift in how television shows are made. The story is hard to explain in brief because there’s simply so much! In short, the seven kingdoms of Westeros are in utter disarray, with many contenders fighting for the Iron Throne, while on the other side of The Wall, a monstrous structure of ice in the north of the country, is the only thing holding back an army of dead warriors, The White Walkers.
At times it can be hard to follow, and there’s a lot of violence, swearing and nudity but if you haven’t already, check out this awesome show!
Boardwalk Empire (2010- 2014)
Set in Atlantic City in the 1920’s, this show follows politician, Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, in his attempt to capitalize on the country’s ban on alcohol. Led by an all-star cast, this show captures the prohibition era perfectly, with so much attention to detail, it’s simply gorgeous to look at.
It’s basically a Martin Scorsese film, if it was a television series!
Peaky Blinders (2013-present)
Here we have the BBC’s answer to Boardwalk Empire. Set in Birmingham shortly after WW1, the story follows Thomas “Tommy” Shelby who leads the dangerous Peaky Blinders gang. In the course of the series, he goes from small time gangster, to an agent of the crown (against his will). All the while, he is pursued by another agent of the crown, Major Campbell.
Like Boardwalk Empire, this series has a huge affection for attention to detail, so Birmingham is gritty, dark and pumping with the fires of industry.
The series also has many big names involved such as: Cillian Murphy, Sam Neil, Noah Taylor and even Hollywood’s current favourite, Tom Hardy.
