In our penultimate blog of last year we look a cheeky gander at the absolute worst games of last year. The ones which promised so much and delivered so little – except maybe some over-priced DLC and a few patches for the bugs. But hey, we’re into the New Year now. A time of prosperity and hope, right? With that in mind, let’s take a look at what promises to be a golden year for video games. These are the ones we can’t wait to play!
Resident Evil HD Remaster
The survival horror that defined the genre returns on both last and next-gen consoles. An update not of the original 1996, but a HD remake of the remastered 2002 edition on the GameCube. Prepare to return to the worst haunted house in the world, filled with zombie scientists, zombie dogs, and even zombie plants. Just try to ignore that creeping dread, and the sound of shuffling feet and… What the devil was that?!
No Man’s Sky
Despite being one of the best-selling consoles ever, the PS4 has a surprising lack of exclusives. But No Man’s Sky will be one of them. And man, are we ever excited. Ever wanted to explore distant planets across the universe? Then this indie game is the one for you. It procedurally generates planets on the fly, meaning the sights and animals on one are totally different to the next one you visit.
Batman: Arkham Knight
Rocksteady’s Batman games have always been pretty solid – particularly the tightly-focussed original, Arkham Asylum. And because of that we’re hugely hyped to play the final instalment in their trilogy, Arkham Knight. From the awesome free-flow combat to the all-new Batmobile, we’re excited to become the Caped Crusader once more.
The Legend of Zelda
Nintendo always make great games – and despite the Wii U’s disappointing sales performance, this could be the game to bring the punters in. While details are scant at present, The Legend of Zelda will continue in 2015 with a highly anticipated open-world Hyrule that looks more beautiful than ever before.
Evolve
Four against one might not sound like a fair fight, but when one is a giant super-powered monster and the other four are mere humans with guns, the odds are considerably levelled. Turtle Rock, who developed the excellent co-op shooter Left 4 Dead, bring us Evolve – which is basically a bullet-fed version of hide and seek, with the monster avoiding the gunners and evolving until it’s powerful enough to destroy the lot.
Whatever you’re looking forward to playing in the year to come, one thing’s for certain – you’ll want a great television to take advantage of the next-gen graphics.
