Smart TV or Streaming Device?

There is little doubt that the internet will play a large part in the future of television entertainment; with fast and reliable broadband becoming more and more widespread, it’s becoming an easy and natural way for people to access the entertainment that they want.

It may be that, one day, the internet will replace traditional broadcasters, and we’ll access all of our entertainment online. There are already plenty of shows that are available online-only, such as the award winning House of Cards from Netflix, and the History Channel’s Vikings was shown exclusively in the UK by Amazon’s LoveFilm service.

There are certainly advantages to watching your television on demand; it allows you to fit your entertainment around your lifestyle, instead of vice-versa, and if you exclusively watch on-demand programming (as opposed to watching television as it is being broadcast) you may not need a television license.

There are many ways to access online entertainment content; you can watch it directly from your computer or tablet, use a streaming device with your existing television, or upgrade to a smart television.

Obviously, if you aren’t on the move then watching your content on your TV is generally preferable to your laptop or tablet, simply because it gives you a larger screen, better quality picture and sound and a more comfortable viewing experience.

However, when it comes to choosing between streaming devices and smart televisions, there has been more debate. Streaming devices tend to be cheaper than replacing your entire television, so some regard them as the most affordable way to upgrade.

The biggest issue with streaming devices is that they don’t tend to include all available channels; some may include the BBC iPlayer and Sky channels, for example, but exclude 4OD and the ITV Player, leaving you unable to access certain content.

A recent article from Business Insider predicts that smart TVs will take over as the primary form of connected TV by next year, and it’s largely due to the fact that they are becoming more affordable. Here at Cheap LED TV we have a great range of cheap smart TVs to give you easy and affordable access to online content and streamed entertainment.
