January’s CES Show Reveals Futuristic TV Ideas

This year’s Consumer Electronics show was held on 7-10th January, in Las Vegas. The huge trade show produced by the Consumer electronics Association brought innovative ideas, product launches and sneak previews of electronic company’s future plans. This huge show brought together the latest in technological break-throughs and an amazing 20,000 new products were launched to the global market across the 3 days. Among innovative new devices the leading television manufactures showcased the latest in TV technology.

Panasonic Life + Screen

Panasonic unveiled their lasted ultra high-definition widescreen which is designed to bring flawless quality alongside a sleek design and simplistic interface. These impressive 4K LED and LCD TVs come in 58 and 65 inch models so they are built with home-cinema viewing in mind. The screen has a 4K resolution, which is for times the resolution of standard HD. A lot of the development focus of this TV set has been the colour processing and  it contains a new Studio Master Colour which reproduces colour in sharp, varied tones. This impressive widescreen TV is now on the market for $7000US.

LG and Samsung’s Curved 4K Screens

The two self-adjusting curved 4K flat screens caused a stir at the CES as people gathered to watch the transition from flat to curved screens. Both of these TVs begin in a flat position and can be adjusted using a remote control to create curvature. Samsung was there to launch its 85 inch flexible TV which will be available for purchase in the second half of the year whereas LGs 77 inch screen is still in production. Although static curved versions of these UHD screens already exist, the point of the adjustable screen is that people can choose the rate of curvature depending on the angle they are viewing the TV at. Both TV manufacturers claim that a concave screen gives a “more immersive” viewing experience but technology critics remain skeptical.

Sony’s Life Space UX

Topping everything with a futuristic mocked-up living room was Sony’s showcase of new product ideas. The room contained several products including different integrated projectors. One projector, concealed in the floor threw up images on the ceiling to make it look like a skylight; another projected a library of readable materials onto a mirror. The key item of the whole display was the 4K ultra short throw projector which is disguised as a simple piece of furniture and folds out into the projector, speakers and a storage cabinet. This projector is capable of showing a 147 inch 4K video even in bright light.
