Don’t let the stress of disposing of your old TV stop you from enjoying a new cheap LED TV in your home. This guide can help you to understand how to dispose of your old TV safely, just in time for a beautiful new television in your living room.
Moving the TV to a New Room
If the television is still in perfect working order, you may not need to get rid of it at all. Moving the old television to a different room will enable you to enjoy it in more places, or for different reasons. If it is a small television, you might choose to move it into the kitchen and use it exclusively for the morning news and cooking channels.
If it’s a bigger television, you might want to move it into your bedroom. You don’t have to be using it every night to know that you’ll appreciate it next time someone is bed-bound by illness or accident.
TVs for Kids
You might also choose to give your old television to your children. If your house has space for a playroom or play area, you can set-up your old television with a cheap games console as a birthday or Christmas present. We’re confident that your children will be over the moon to have a dedicated gaming station just for them, especially if they can invite their friends over and add extra fun to birthday parties. This can even be offered as an incentive for them to finish their homework!
Giving Your TV to Charity
Your TV might not be that old, but you’re still looking to upgrade to something a little bigger, or perhaps something with better quality, or perhaps you have moved house and found that your television is now the wrong size for the room it is in. Whatever your reason is, if your television is still in good nick, you may want to consider donating it to a charity for someone else to benefit from.
Alternatively, there might be a school or hospital in your local area that would benefit from a nice television set.
Selling Your Old TV
If you’re loathe to simply give away your old television, you might also consider selling it. If it still works properly and doesn’t have many scratches or faults in its appearance, then you might want to try selling it on eBay or Amazon, but you can also trade in televisions locally in some shops.
As part of their anti-waste policy, Samsung offer trade-in credit on a few of their televisions in some areas, so if you’re confident with the brand of TV you’re using and want to upgrade in the same brand, perhaps you should research into whether you can trade your TV in with the supplier.
If your television is thoroughly broken, then you might believe that there’s no hope of selling it, but this isn’t true. There are plenty of students who would relish the chance to investigate the electrical structure of a television – although you should never allow children to tear apart a television, as most TVs have dangerous elements and gases that could hurt them.
Places that offer television repairs may also be interested in taking apart broken televisions so that they can recycle any aspects that are still working. For example, if your screen is broken, we might still be able to use the wiring inside to fix another TV.
Taking Your TV to the Tip
If there is absolutely no hope for your television – or if you don’t want to drive your old set from door to door looking for a shop that will accept it – then you can always take your television to the tip. There are certain regulations that should be followed when you dispose of your television, however, as many TVs contain substances that can harm local ecosystems and even poison nearby humans if they’re released into the air. Follow these steps to stay safe:
- Do not dispose of your television by putting it in your general waste.
- Take your television to the tip.
- Take it to the electrical waste area.
- If you are unsure, speak to someone at the tip center for advice.
As well as potentially harmful elements, a television also contains various traces of important metals and other materials that can be recycled. When you properly tip your television, you will be giving it a chance to live again in hundreds of other products.
Our Repair Service
We also offer a repair service for our televisions, in case you have a television that you desperately don’t want to part with. Sometimes, a repair might be quite expensive because we have to request parts, so you may want to consider a new television instead. This is often the case with smashed screens, for example.
We have large selection of cheap TVs, including QLED TVs and even some cheap 3D TVs for you to choose from when replacing your old TV.
