If you’re a fan of sports, then this weekend was definitely a great one to spend on the sofa in front of the TV. We all have our favourite sports, but there were a couple of historic sporting moments that came about in the last few days that are well worth pointing out. Here are two of our favourites:
You knew this one was coming right? After an up and down season, Lewis Hamilton finally secured the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship for the second time in his career, and now joins the ranks of the all-time great drivers (especially in terms of the UK candidates). Needing to finish second to guarantee the title, Hamilton held off a spirited challenge from Massa to win in Abu Dhabi, leaving his title rival, Nico Rosberg, struggling with mechanical problems far adrift in the field. It perhaps wasn’t the climactic battle that many people had hoped for, and indeed the eventual gulf in points now looks pretty convincing, but anyone who’s followed this rollercoaster year knows different.
There’s a select group of ‘sports fans’ that are always surprised when you confirm that the tennis year extends beyond Wimbledon, but Roger Federer certainly needs no reminding of this. Having bounced back from a below-par 2013, the Swiss legend has put together a remarkably consistent year, and over the weekend he ensured that last week’s disappointment at the World Tour Finals in no way soured his year. The Davis Cup – a sort of tennis ‘world cup’ – was pretty much the only gap in Federer’s resume, and winning the decisive rubber for Switzerland against France’s Richard Gasquet has now plugged that hole. Special mention must go to Swiss teammate Stan Wawrinka, who was inspired throughout and opened the door for Federer’s coup de gras. Fantastic effort.
We could doubtless go on about last weekend for a good long while, but what about the future? Well there’s plenty coming up! Darts is on the horizon, and snooker enthusiasts can look forward to the start of the prestigious UK championship later today (to say nothing of the more ‘mainstream’ excitement surrounding the football and rugby scenes and the like). If you’re going to get the most from these events though, you’ll need a decent TV, and here at Cheap LED TV we’ve got you covered.
