Miracast is essentially a wireless standard which enables you to pass videos across your Wi-Fi connection to your set. Everything from an Android phone to your TV can come with the Miracast software as default, even if you aren’t aware of it! It uses the Wi-Fi Direct standard to work its magic and can even offer support for 5.1 sound and 1080p video. If your Android is Android 4.2 or newer, or you have a recent Windows computer, then you are rocking Miracast without even necessarily knowing it, so give it a go!
This is the ‘classic’ when it comes to streaming media on your television. While we are living in an increasingly wireless world, and it isn’t exactly the tidiest means of streaming your media from a device, it does provide you with unlimited access to the whole World Wide Web. Each device is likely to have a different sized HDMI-port – we’ve made the mistake of not checking prior to purchasing a cable, and it is rather infuriating – so don’t make the same mistake! Dependant on your laptop, you can pay as little as £10, although with Apple technology you can potentially be looking at something a little pricier.
