When we’re not providing you lucky lot with awesome technology through offering cheap LED TVs for sale, we love nothing more than celebrating innovation and the pushing forward of new and exciting technology. One such exciting development comes in the form of 8K… that’s right… 8K TVs finally hitting the shelves.
We’ve known it was coming for some time but recent news has emerged that the 8K TV is about to be rolled out. Whilst many companies have their own particular brand of super hi-vision test models, it is actually Sony who have taken the giant leap for pixel-kind and seem to be the first off the mark.
Sixteen Times the Number of Pixels
The 8K format presents sixteen times as many pixels as its 1080p HD cousin, providing the user with an image so vivid that it is claimed to actually appear 3D… imagine that! An 85in model (that’s over 2m!) can be yours for the measly price of £86,000, so you have plenty of time to save up before it is released to consumers, with the first customers expected to be mainly broadcasters and other businesses who are involved in testing the 8K format.
First 8K Broadcaster
The price alone is possibly one of the reasons behind Japan’s NHK being the only broadcaster so far to announce intentions to broadcast 8K content, although this may be subject to change should initial predictions be proved wrong. On the other hand, Mallick also states that, “Japan’s a region in which the average size of TVs sold tends to be smaller, and we think the minimum size 8K TVs would be sold at would be 65in.”
Such predictions, while usually based in logic and statistic, tend to be somewhat off; remember the quote about every town someday having a computer? We can only hope the same level of underestimation occurs!
