If you haven’t yet taken a look at the Worst Remakes Of All Time (Part 10), we strongly suggest you take a look. It seems these days you simply can’t walk into a cinema to watch a completely original movie anymore. These days cinema goers are constantly let down by their favourite book taking the leap onto the big screen, by never ending stories and by the dreaded remakes.
When it comes to remaking a classic fan favourite film, you want to make sure you get it right. Of course any remakes will pale in comparison to the original, though sometimes a remake simply doesn’t work.
The Hulk (2008)
We’ll start off with The Hulk.
One of Marvel’s superheroes The Incredible Hulk should have stayed on the pages of comic books… or at least left in its original beauty. Remade in 2004 and then again in 2008 we’re sorry to say that we don’t follow the plot at all. If having two remakes so close together doesn’t worry you enough, neither film is able to give a sturdy, easy to follow plot other than Bruce Banner turned into The Hulk and then ruins buildings.
Throw in some clumsy acting and disbelieving characters and we’re sorry to say, these remakes simply doesn’t cut it. It’s okay though, there’s rumours of yet another Hulk movie in the Marvel works. Fingers crossed this one hits the nail on the head.
The Karate Kid (2010)
It took the world by storm when it first came out in 1984, why? Because it was simply masterful. A beautiful underdog story, it shows the elegance of an ancient art form and the respect gained and earned from it.
In comparison the Karate Kid of 2010 shows a mix of comic and dramatic plot twists. Though these are entertaining for modern audiences, it neglects the same respect and grace the first film installed in audiences. Leaving the cinema you’re left feeling a little disappointed. As for the acting… perhaps we’ll let you make up your minds on that front.
The Fantastic Four (2015)
It seems when it comes to remaking superhero movies, the film makers simply don’t have it in them to pull it off.
Another of Marvel’s comic book wonders, The Fantastic Four first attempted to be released in 1994, the low budget movie never actually made it to the big screen. In 2005, however, the film flopped onto screens in a bundle of cheese and bad acting. Of course with the advancement in technology, why not give it another go?
Unfortunately no amount of special effects can save this movie and the disbelieving characters simply turned this into one of the biggest losses of the year.
We’re not saying that every remake is terrible, Mad Max, for instance is a stunning creation Terminator didn’t turn out half bad either. For the most part however, we’re always going to find a great love with our original classic films. Sometimes it’s best to leave a film well enough alone.
