Crowd funding is a fairly recent trend that has hit both big and little screens, whereby a director or someone with an investment in a particular project offer incentives for fans of the project, or people involved, to donate money via a crowd funding source.

Comedian David Cross, best known for his role as entendre-tripping Tobias Fünke in Arrested Development, was looking to get his directing debut Hits onto the big screen. Having made a splash at Sundance festival and despite receiving interest from “some great distributers”, Cross wanted to launch the film himself due to the fact that he felt “their plans with the film were a little lacklustre”. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, Cross met his target and managed to get the film screened in 50 cities.
Super Troopers 2
Super Troopers focused on a group of Vermont State troopers who spend as much time pranking unsuspecting drivers as much as they did actually doing their work. You’ll be happy to know they doubled the amount required and start shooting this year! For those who still want to donate to the cause and make the film even more of an extravaganza, you can find out how to take part here.
