Many children’s childhoods were shaped by Disney movies, and many girls will have dreamt of being one of the Disney princesses.
Here at Cheap LED TV, we love great movies, so here are some of the best Disney princess movies of all time.
Frozen
Anna and Elsa are THE Disney princesses of the moment, with every little girl wanting to watch the movie on repeat and Elsa dress-up outfits becoming more and more difficult to come by. Anna and Elsa are the princesses of Arendelle, a magical kingdom and a typical Disney creation.
Elsa is crowned Queen shortly after the film begins. However, when her magical powers are exposed she is forced to flee into the mountains. Anna desperately tries to find Elsa and convince her to bring back summer with the help of Kristoff, an ice salesman, and Sven, his reindeer.
Disney’s Frozen defies the conventions of typical princess movies, but to find out how you’re going to have to watch it for yourself!
Beauty and the Beast
According to writers of the film, Belle’s character was shaped on the idea that she would be an “unusual Disney heroine”, preferring books to romance and independence to marriage. She shows no interest in Gaston, the most eligible bachelor in town who wishes to make Belle his wife, and she is determined to find her father when he becomes lost in the forest.
The love story in Beauty and the Beast is unconventional, but showed young girls that beauty came from the inside. The Beast was not a beast at all, and although angry and intimidating at first, he’s actually a gentle soul, a reformed character and, of course, a Prince.
Aladdin
Jasmine is a strong-willed princess who is far from your traditional damsel-in-distress. She is frustrated with her dull and unfulfilling palace life and is desperate for adventure, leading her to form a friendship with street rat Aladdin and his monkey Abu.
She soon discovers that Aladdin and Prince Ali of Ababwa are in fact the same person, and once her father sees that they are very much in love with each other, they are allowed to marry.
Cinderella
Cinderella, which was recently made into a live-action film, tells the story of a girl who is forced to become a scullery maid for her evil stepmother and stepsisters following the unexpected death of her aristocratic father. Even though she was restricted to a very unfulfilling life, she still finds it within herself to have a singalong with her woodland friends.
Her life is turned around when her magical Fairy Godmother allows her to go to a ball at the palace, where she meets her true love, Prince Charming, who she is forced to leave at midnight without even giving her name. His love for her is evident through his determination to track her down using only her glass slipper, and they live happily ever after in true Disney form.
The Little Mermaid
Ever dreamed of being a mermaid? Well, if you have seen this film, you must have done! Ariel is a defiant 16-year-old who refuses to accept the world that lies beneath the sea, and instead dreams of a life on the land with the handsome Prince Eric. She is soon granted this wish by the evil Sea Witch Ursula in exchange for her voice.
Ariel is determined to win the heart of her true love, and her trusty friends Sebastian and Flounder do everything they can to help her along the way. Ariel shows us that you can have the life you want if you want it badly enough.
Mulan
Mulan may not technically be a princess, but she certainly is more than deserving of being in this list. She struggles to live within the restrictions on women in Ancient China, and runs away in the middle of the night to go to war in the place of her injured and elderly father.
With some misguidance from Mushu (a dragon), and a fairly lucky cricket, Mulan soars to the top of the ranks of the Imperial Army, saving her fellow troops from the Huns on more than one occasion. Mulan is far from being a princess locked in a tower – in fact, she almost single-handedly saves China.
