The year is young, but 2016 has already had some very exciting films. Deadpool was probably the most anticipated release of February, breaking records and raking in millions at the box office with the figure still climbing. The movies honoured at the Academy Awards included a number of 2016 releases, such as Spotlight which won Best Picture. Leonardo DiCaprio finally won Best Actor for truly harrowing film, The Revenant, which was amongst several fantastic movies that were nominated for the category. We’re still hotly anticipating the films mentioned in Part One, as well as the following films which have also got our attention…
But as the year has only just begun, there’s plenty left on the movie menu to get our pulses racing and the box offices busy for another few months!
Hail, Caesar!
You’ve got to love a film with a star-spangled cast, and this new title directed by the Coen brothers promises just that! Hail, Caesar! explores the 1950s Hollywood movie scene, telling the story of Eddie Mannix, American film producer and Hollywood fixer, best known for dealing with the problems of big movie stars.
During filming of Hail, Caesar! the movie’s leading man, Baird Whitlock, played by George Clooney, gets abducted and it falls upon Mannix to deal with the dilemma. With performances from Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, Channing Tatum and many more, Hail, Caesar! promises big things when it releases on March 4th.
Eddie the Eagle
Based on a true story, the movie tells the story of Michael ‘Eddie’ Edwards, a British ski-jumper who starts out as seemingly hopeless, but with the help and coaching of Bronson Peary, played by Hugh Jackman, he begins to win over the hearts of sports fans everywhere during the 1988 Olympics.
Taron Egerton plays the tenacious Eddie the Eagle in the movie that’s due to hit cinemas on March 28th.
Suicide Squad
It’s been a successful couple of years for superhero films, and we hope that Suicide Squad will only improve the sub-genre with its anti-hero premise. Starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker, this comic book inspired movie tells the story of a world in jeopardy that can only be saved with the help of imprisoned super villains.
Secret government agency A.R.G.U.S. seeks to employ the services of the Suicide Squad in exchange for shorter sentences, which we can only hope will reap as much havoc as the idea predicts when it releases on August 5th.
Even though these films have yet to reach their release dates, there’s no harm in preparing for the moment we can own these flicks on DVD to watch in true cinema style in our own homes.
